The geography of Mexico ranges from deserts to very high mountains, from plains, large plateaus, valleys, depressions, to tropical beaches. Mexico's Geography and Regions 


Much of northern Mexico is desert, an area of stunning natural beauty. The Chihuahua Desert is covers the center and eastern part of Mexico. The Sonora Desert extends from the center of Mexico to the Pacific Coast.

 

Central Mexico is primarily a volcanic plateau, is a step back to the ancient times. The topography is marked by the following mountain ranges: Sierra Madre Occidental in the West, Sierra Madre Oriental in the East and Cordillera Neovolcánica in the center.

 

The Cordillera Neovolcanica run east-west acress the country.  This range includes the active volcanoes Popocatepetl (5,452 m, he highest active volcano in the Northern Hemisphere) and Volcan de Fuego de Colima (3,960 m), as well as Mexico’s other highest peaks. Among these, Pico de Orizaba (5,611 m known as Citlaltépetl which means Star Mountain) is the highest peak between Colombia and the Yukon.

 

Mexico’s coast is lined with tropical beaches both along the Pacific Ocean and along the Caribbean Sea. The tropical beaches of Mexicoare are prime destination for most vacationers. The Yucatan Peninsula is a tropical paradise, with beaches on the Caribbean Sea. Nature has undoubtedly been extremely generous in the Pacific Coast, the jewel in Mexico's crown, with historic destinations such as Acapulco and the Baja Peninsula which are totally devoted to making vacations into memorable experiences.
