Nigeria's Geography. Geographical Information about Nigeria.

Nigeria is a land of plains, hills, and plateaus and its most expansive topographical region is that of the valleys of the Niger and Benue River.

Nigeria's Geography and Regions

Nigeria consists of four major natural zones:

60-km coastal area in the south indented by lagoons and by the immense Niger River Delta. The coast is a narrow lowland of sandy beaches, mangrove swamps, lagoons, and interconnected rivers. Coastal plains are found in both the southwest and the southeast.

Forest-covered mountains in the west and east; the Jos Plateau (4,000 feet) in the centre, culminating at Shere hill, 1,780 metres (5,800 feet); The elevation around the Jos Plateau is about 2 km. the Highlands along the eastern border, which rise to 2,040 metres (6,693 feet) at Vogel Peak, south of the  Benue River; and the plain of Sokoto. To the southwest of the Niger, which is 150 km wide, there is "rugged" highland. The Lake Chad Basin forms part of the Sahel region, and is semi desert.

The exhaustive wildlife of Nigeria abounds in a wide variety of wild animals and lush green environs that tempt and attract nature lovers from different parts of the world. The most popular animals found in the jungles of Nigeria are--- elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, antelope, monkeys, jackals and hyenas.
