It’s always good to learn the language of the country you wish to travel to. There are so many benefits of doing so. For one it goes over well with the natives and if you plan on visiting parts of China other than the larger cities like Shanghai and Beijing, then knowing some Mandarin is a plus.
Start with simple words and phrases and work your way up.
The internet isn’t the same in China
If you want to stay connected with the rest of the world while on your trip to China be sure to get yourself a VPN for Mac or PC before entering China. This is because China has a firewall that blocks everyone there from using Google, Facebook and other popular online platforms.
If you’re not sure what VPN is, then we’ll explain. VPN means Virtual Private Network. It makes your computer’s IP address unrecognizable, which makes it seem that you’re in the US or another part of the world while in China.
Expect a different ‘Chinese food’ experience
Chinese food in your country is not the same ‘Chinese Food’ you get while in China. It’s best that we get this fact out of the way before you travel and possibly find yourself disappointed.
Within Chinese culture they eat just about anything and it is prepared in very unique and delectable ways. So be prepared to have a party in your pallet when it comes to Chinese cuisine in China.
Chinese People are friendly and love a good bargain
A major concern for any traveller is always whether or not the people of your destinatination country are ‘nice’. Well, there’s no need to worry about this when in China because the people are quite friendly. A very fun and interesting fact is that they are quite the paparazzi. The Chinese are a little fascinated with blond hair and you might find people asking to take your photo or sneaking one in if you happen to be in China and have blond hair.
Additionally, when shopping, don’t hesitate to strike a good bargain. Of course, you wouldn’t be able to do this with stores that are more on the luxury side of things but otherwise, try your luck, you may never know.

A few places to visit while in China
We know about some of the world-famous sites in China such as the Great Wall and the major city of Beijing. But, there are so many other breathtaking sites all over China and we’ll talk about a few.
- Zhangye Danxia Landform – This landform is named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is found in Danxia and is called the ‘painted mountains’ for short.
- Guanyin Statue – A very large statue, standing 354 feet tall, it is dedicated to Guantin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. It is found in the Nanshan Temple Complex.
- Jiuzhaigou- This place has an extremely large lake that changes color. The colors change throughout the day and the year and is found in Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan in China.
