The announcement of the Chilean 30-man provisional squad last Tuesday did not generate the degree of discussion that football fans have become used to this month, as Jorge Sampaoli delivered a preliminary decision that favored public and commentator expectations. However, one could surmise that an Andean crystal ball has shone a light upon Sampaoli, due to his optimism regarding midfielder Arturo Vidal’s ability to recover from a knee injury. Unlike significant players of other nations, who have been sidelined due to physical issues, Vidal was one of the chosen 30 and only time will tell whether his name will be repeated on June 2. Although Chile is part of Group B, which includes defending champion Spain, the Reuters news agency has described the Red Ones as a team in “great form.”
