If you’re a Chinese teacher looking to find Chinese classes in the US, it might seem like a daunting task. But with the correct information at hand, it can be more accessible than ever to bring our skills to America and help spread language awareness and diversity!
Here at Day Translations, we care deeply for languages and the preservation of the culture associated with them. In a bid to try and promote language access, we’ve sponsored the GMABC Chinese Teacher Workshop. The initiative strives to better serve Chinese teachers in America and act as a gateway for anyone looking to teach Chinese in America.
About GMABC
The Greater Miami Asian Business Coalition (GMABC) is a non-profit organization based in Florida that aims to drive the promotion of the Chinese language by promoting professional, educational, and community engagement opportunities, focusing on South Florida’s Asian communities.
The goal behind GMABC is to unite Asian-American communities and help them partner with an array of organizations. GMABC is an innovative initiative that can help Chinese teachers find classes in the US, and they can also assist them with securing teaching positions within America.
Finding Chinese Classes in the US
Chinese teachers that are completing their teacher certification process will naturally want to start looking for Chinese classes as soon as possible. Here are some options for helping you find your dream job:
Job Search Websites
Teaching-focused job search websites like Schoolspring.com, Educationamerica.net, or job portals like Lensa.com are great places to start searching for Chinese classes. Hiring schools and districts regularly post vacancies on websites like these and make it easier for qualified teachers to find roles suitable for their skills and experience. You might also want to consider checking out the National Association for Independent School’s website (Nais.org) if you’re searching for roles at independent and private schools.
School District Websites
Another great way to find Chinese classes and teaching positions is by heading straight to the source and visiting the website of the school districts you’re focusing on. You’ll often find links on the websites where schools list vacancies in their districts.
Non-profit Organizations
Non-profits, like GMABC, are great doorways for teachers. They can help you secure roles in the US to get yur foot in the door. Organizations like this help connect teachers with jobs.
When to Search for Chinese Classes
Most districts start posting job openings in early spring, but this is by no means a set rule. Positions can open up at any time. So there’s no such thing as the “right” or “wrong” time to start searching for positions.
So, when is the best time to start searching for a role? As soon as possible! The interview and hiring process can be lengthy at times. So make sure you start exploring the waters as soon as you’ve graduated.
The key to landing your first role or getting into a position at a Chinese class is to not put all your eggs in one basket. It’s perfectly acceptable to apply for several jobs at once. If you happen to get multiple offers, you can accept the position that best matches your skills, experience, and expectations.
