Open Mic vol. 2 is back, this time with Day Translations Marketing Manager, Roman Delcarmen.
Roman is an SEO expert with nearly 10 years of experience. His main expertise is SEO, but he mastered other areas such as email marketing (Drip, Infusionsoft, and MailChimp) and content strategy.
Passionate about his work, he is an active and prominent member of the best SEO and marketing communities, such as Moz, Semrush, Ahrefs, Unbounce, Majestic and Optimizely. He also has many awards from Authority Level on MOZ, and has been given the “Optimizer of the Month” award on Optimizely.
Open Mic: Hello Mr. Delcarmen, thank you for agreeing to our interview for Open MIC at Day Translations. We have a couple of questions for you that we know many people want to read and learn about, especially with your experience in managing content and improving website ranking. In a technological world, where you have so many tips and experiences within the web, your knowledge will be helpful for followers and readers.
Open Mic: After reading your Bio, we noticed that you have received many Awards. How did you begin your career?
Roman Delcarmen: It’s funny because I’ve entered the world of Digital Marketing by accident. It was always a passion, a type of hobby. I lost my job and started to work for a little company on web development – I didn’t make much money but what I’ve learned in those days is what brings me here today.
Open Mic: You are a specialist in PPC and SEO. Can you explain PPC and how it can help companies rank online, grow and be successful?
Roman: I will try to keep it as short as I can because I could spend the whole day talking about this subject without getting tired, but I have been working and running SEO and PPC campaigns for years, and the truth is that with time you realize that there is no magical recipe or secrets. Making a company grow online to a certain level requires the same as any other project: effort, commitment, money and especially a lot of knowledge about what you do.
Open Mic: Leading the Marketing team for a company like Day Translation seems to be quite a lot of work. Which tips can you share about managing your team, settling (?) content and scheduling all your work?
Roman: With time, you notice that it doesn’t matter how good you are, without a team you are nothing. And this doesn’t only apply to me as a Marketing Manager, it applies to everything in life. Therefore, without my team and the people that collaborate in my team, nothing would be possible. The secret is to attract the best and most adequate people and treat them as I like to be treated. I don’t see myself as “Someone’s Boss”, I see myself as a facilitator, so my team shines while understanding their skills and limitations. Preferably listen a lot and talk less – – that is why we have two ears and only one mouth.
Open Mic: What are the best tools, for a website or blog, that you recommend people should learn to develop new skills online?
Roman: I honestly could write an encyclopedia about this subject, but if someone asks me which tool is the one that everyone needs to use and have, then it’s Ahrefs –, it’s the most complete tool.
Open Mic: What is your opinion on the future of websites, blogs and rankings? What trends are you following and how many of them will actually survive and be used? SEO is now very much being used by everyone, but when it started to be discussed, no one used it. What can we expect in the future?
Roman: Markets will continue to evolve, and we will see strategies like omnichannel imposing themselves above the rest in the future.
Open Mic: What is your professional goal and what is your personal goal?
Roman: Well, I have several personal goals. On a professional level I want to continue to specialize in my career and in the conversion rate area, which is the one in which I am interested. In personal terms, I have several goals but the most relevant is setting up a marketing digital school in Nicaragua where I can share what I have learned, and for that I am collaborating with a local University.
Open Mic: For a bit of calm after work, what does Roman do after Mr. Delcarmen stops working? How do you unwind and relax?
Roman: Usually I read, or play Chess, and also do sports.
Open Mic: For our last question: Tell the past YOU some words or tips you would have liked someone to have told you back then.
Roman: Trust yourself, no matter what people say, and do your best like there was no Tomorrow.
Thank you, Mr. Delcarmen for your time and sharing your knowledge, experiences, and tips.
Managing, coordinating, and developing a team and new ideas on marketing for a company like Day Translations takes time, effort and a lot of mental work. But without confidence in your team, knowledge, respect, and love for what you do, a company cannot be successful, and you are a major part of that. Thank you for sharing your goals and experience with us.
Don’t forget to tune in for our Open Mic 3 next month!
