Millions around the world would be watching the royal wedding, and one cannot help but wonder what thoughts are running through their head. What do they think of Prince Harry, the youngest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, whose full name is Henry Charles Albert David? What are their thoughts about American actress and women’s rights activist who caught his heart, Meghan Markle?
Who is Meghan Markle?
Meghan Markle is an American with mixed parentage. Thomas Markle Sr., her father, is a retired lighting director resides in Rosarito, Mexico while her mother is an African-American by the name of Doria Loyce Ragland, is a yoga instructor and social worker. She was six years old when her parents divorced.
Ms. Markle used to work as a calligrapher and actress, with Suits as her last TV show.
Meghan Markle used to be married to Trevor Engelson, a producer and actor. Their marriage lasted from September 2011 to August 2013.
The media has been praising Meghan Markle’s sense of fashion. They say she dresses to feel good and real. It’s very different from the princess dress code although she’s careful not to offend the British royals’ senses. Her wardrobe represents modern women. She chooses her clothes well and goes for good coats, mid-priced bags, skinny jeans and some Manolo Blahnik and Aquazzura shoes.
There was an interesting story about a bag Ms. Markle was using on her first public engagement with the Prince that was caught on camera. The bag, made by Hundleby, became an instant hit and their stock sold out before Christmas 2017.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story
A blind date set up by a friend led to the meeting of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in July 2016 led to instant sparks. After two dates, Prince Harry asked her to join him on a trip to Botswana, where the central gem of her engagement ring came from. It is a tradition among the royals to create a royal engagement ring from their own gem collection. They did follow part of the tradition by using two diamonds from a brooch owned by Princess Diana.
The two dated quietly for six months before the rumor got out and media came out with various articles. The situation became unpleasant since their story first came out in Oct. 2016. Meghan Markle became the target of bashers, with racist and sexist abuse online and in print leading to the Kensington Palace issuing a statement from Prince Harry.
Their love for each other endured, and they made several public appearances together, with people noticing their matching bracelets, Meghan’s necklace with M and H initials and so on. On November 27, 2017 their engagement was finally announced. Before that, Meghan Markle had met some members of the royal family – Prince Charles, Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte and Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan retired from acting and closed all her social media accounts when her relationship with Prince Harry, who’s sixth in line to the British throne, was made public. She started to accompany her beau in some of his official duties.
New titles
Before the wedding, Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the title of Duke of Sussex to Prince Harry. This means that after their marriage, Ms. Markle would be addressed as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.
The royal wedding
The couple will tie the knot at the St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle at 12:00 pm on May 19, 2018. After the ceremony, they would have a parade around the town to greet about 10,000 well-wishers.
Floral designer Philippa Craddock decorated the chapel with white garden roses, foxgloves, peonies and branches of hornbeam, birch and beech.
Due to poor health, Ms. Markle’s father cannot make it to the wedding. Instead, Prince Charles will walk the bride down the aisle. Prince William will stand as best man. Ms. Markle will have 10 pageboys and bridesmaids, including the children of Prince William, Princess Charlotte and Prince George.
The wedding would be witnessed by 600 invited guests while 1,200 people, most of them renowned for their charitable work would join the royals in the wedding reception at the Windsor Castle’s grounds.
Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury will officiate the wedding. Dean of Windsor, David Conner, will conduct the service while the Most Rev Bishop Michael Curry from the Episcopal Church in Chicago will give an address. A reading will be given by Lady Jane Fellowes, Princess Diana’s sister.
Fairy tales still happen. Despite the derision and disillusionment of many, a royal wedding still garner so much interest around the world. For the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, people from various parts of the world, especially those from the United States traveled to the UK to witness the event. They want to share in the joy of having a wedding and give the couple a toast. They want to see the bride’s wedding dress and the wedding ring. They want to witness all the pomp and glory of a royal wedding and for most of them; they want to be a part of history.
